Sept. 6, 2011: Candor NC- Tonight at a meeting organized by
Candor citizens concerned about a proposed biomass incinerator to
be operated by NC-CHP 1 LLC, Blue Ridge Environmental Defense
League released their white paper Second Opinion: The Medical
Profession Diagnoses Biomass Incineration. The white paper
compiles statements of concern from medical organizations and
professionals across the country who oppose biomass incineration.

Impacts on the Environment and Public Health June 2011: At high temperatures used in poultry waste gasification, toxic metals including arsenic, hydrochloric and sulfuric acids, and ozone-forming nitrogen oxides would be released. Also, dioxins and furans would be created in the cooling process following the burning of chlorinated compounds and cellulose. These poisons are dangerous at extremely low levels and modern pollution control devices do a poor job of reducing these emissions into the atmosphere.

NC Utilities Commission Order Issued Today

7, 2011: Today the North Carolina Utilities Commission issued an
order granting Blue Ridge Environmental Defense Leagues
petition to intervene in ReVenture Park Investments request
for a declaratory ruling. The order is in response to the Leagues
petition to intervene filed on Monday. |

8, 2011: A Charlotte company plans to build and operate a waste
incinerator at the proposed ReVenture Park in the Catawba River
District of Mecklenburg and Gaston counties. According to
ReVenture project developers, the incinerator could burn wood
scraps, garbage and sewage sludge in a 20 megawatt
waste-to-energy plant. |
