DR. Langely:
It has come to my attention
that your office is involved in investigating the
health concerns of individuals living in the
vicinity of Carolina Solite in Stanly
County. I am formally requesting that your
investigation include citizens in the adjacent
Anson and Union Counties.
If you examine the
prevailing wind patterns around Solite, you will
find that 6 months of the year Anson County is in
these winds. Yet, we are being ignored as
to the health concerns of this plant.
I personally live within 10
miles of Solite's stacks and many other Anson
residents live within 1 mile. The property
of Solite borders my county on the South. I
have personally talked with Solite's Anson
neighbors living close to Solite and they too are
very concerned about the exposures to toxic
releases from Solite.
Our county health director,
Mr. Jim Roosen has written letters of concern and
inquired about Solite.
Anson County CACTUS was
instrumental in organizing the citizens of Stanly
County SCOTCH in 1989. We have continued
our vigilance and raised concerns about Solite
continuously.
Please view the information
included and keep me informed as to the direction
of the study. As other concerned citizens
groups, I would like to receive all
correspondence in this matter.
Thank you for time and
consideration in this matter.
Sincerely,
Denise Lee, President
