Title: Location: Route 73
Towns of Vinton and Rocky Mount
Cities of Roanoke, Salem and Martinsville
Counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Franklin, Henry and Roanoke

WHEREAS, in accordance with the statutes of the Commonwealth of Virginia and policies of the Commonwealth Transportation Board, Location Public Hearings were held in 2000 on Monday December 11 at the Martinsville Middle School, Tuesday December 12 at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School, Wednesday December 13 and Thursday December 14 at the Hotel Roanoke between 2:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., for the purpose of considering the proposed location for Route 73, with possible locations passing through the Towns of Vinton and Rocky Mount, Cities of Roanoke, Salem and Martinsville, Counties of Bedford, Botetourt, Franklin, Henry and Roanoke, beginning the Virginia/North Carolina State Line (Route 220) to ending at Interstate 81; State Projects 0073-962-F01-PE-101; and

WHEREAS, proper notice was given in advance, and all those present were given a full opportunity to express their opinions and recommendations for or against the proposed project as presented, and their statements being duly recorded; and

WHEREAS, the economic, social, and environmental effects of the proposed project have been examined and given proper consideration, and this evidence, along with all other, has been carefully reviewed.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the location of this project be approved in accordance with the plan as proposed and presented as Alternatives 374, 376, 287a, 399, 400, 153, 326b, 326, 387, 329, 373, 391, 390, 349, 393 and 398 at the said Location Public Hearings by the Department's Engineers.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that segments 118B and 118 being built as a connector to U.S. Route 220.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Route 73 be designated as a Limited Access Highway between the Virginia/North Carolina State Line and Interstate 81 in accordance with the statutes of Virginia and in accordance with the Commonwealth Transportation Board Policies.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in the interest of public safety, pedestrian, persons riding bicycles or mopeds, horsedrawn vehicles, self-propelled machinery or equipment, and animals led, ridden or driven on the hoof be prohibited from using this Route 73 from the Virginia/North Carolina State Line and Interstate 81.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in accordance with Section 33.1-53 of the Code of Virginia the herein approved 73.88 mile segment be designated Virginia Interstate 73.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that in accordance with Section 33.1-53 of the Code of Virginia the herein approved 68.18 mile segment (excluding 5.7 miles of existing Route 581 which is already a part of the Interstate System) be added to the Interstate System of Highways.
