Plant Vogtle Nuclear Case Courtroom Filled With Local Residents

Today residents of Shell Bluff, Georgia journeyed to Washington, DC to witness the argument between their attorneys and the opposition in the US Court of Appeals.

Charles Utley, Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League’s staff member who helped organize the trip, was in the courtroom. Emerging from the hearing, he was pleased with the issues raised, saying, “Our lawyers asked why the new information from Fukushima was not included in Plant Vogtle’s license and the judges worked over this issue quite well.” Leaving the courtroom for a debriefing session, Utley remarked that the judges seemed to notice the many people in attendance. “We traveled all night to be here today to bear silent witness against our nuclear neighbor, Plant Vogtle.”

This afternoon the group will meet with Administration officials to deliver a letter of grievances against the Georgia Power plant in their midst.
