GROUPS TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE ON COVANTA POLLUTION

CHESTER RESIDENTS FORM LEAGUE CHAPTER

On Thursday, December 3rd the Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League and the Serious Chester County Residents Against Pollution will hold a press conference to release new information about air poisons and health impacts from the proposed Covanta incinerator in Chester County. The press conference will take place at the Chester County Library on 100 Center Street in Chester and will begin at 1:00 PM.

The League’s science director, Lou Zeller, will present US EPA air pollution models of the Chester County site showing dangerous levels of contaminants from the proposed incinerator. Zeller said, “We are especially concerned about high levels of hydrochloric acid and mercury from the incinerator.”

The Serious Chester County Residents Against Pollution is the newest chapter in the multi-state Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League. Jimmy Bruce of Richburg has been chosen as the chair of SCCRAP’s steering committee. The group is concentrating on turnout to the December 7th meeting of the Chester County Council, educating the people of Chester County and turning around the opinions of their elected leaders.
