Exhibition of 20 foot long mock nuclear waste cask

Talk by Lois Gibbs - Executive Director, The Center for Health, Environment and Justice

When : Thursday 25 March 2004 at 12:30 p.m.

Where: Lee Park - Downtown Charlottesville, VA

Program:

Members of the People's Alliance for Clean Energy (PACE) invite concerned citizens to join Lois Gibbs at a press conference at Lee Park to kick off the Anti-Nuclear Days of Action in commemoration of the accident at Three Mile Island.

March 28 marks the 25th anniversary of a partial meltdown at the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania. Two days after the accident began, children and pregnant women within five miles of the plant were evacuated. In all, 2 million people were exposed to 1 millirem of radiation - twice the level allowed for pregnant women - according to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.

Informational material on nuclear energy and Dominion Virginia Power's proposal for two new nuclear reactors in Central Virginia will be available, as will an exhibition of a mock nuclear cask used to transport highly radioactive spent fuel from nuclear power plants to nuclear waste sites.

Lois Gibbs is the Executive Director of The Center for Health, Environment, and Justice. Gibbs became active in the environmental movement when her community suffered the devastating effects of hazardous waste in the infamous "Love Canal" neighborhood in Niagara Falls, New York.

Ms. Gibbs will meet with local activists following the press conference
